In order to reduce the amount of energy used for the air-conditioning of a lecture theatre, which in general must be cooled to a greater or lesser extent, first the primary air quantity is reduced to a minimum value (as a function of a measurement of the room air temperature in the area in which the persons are seated) upon reduction of the cooling requirement, before the primary air temperature is increased. The temperature sensors (26) for the exact determination of the room air temperature in the area in which the persons are seated are arranged in the secondary air slots (53) through which room air is drawn in by the outflowing, treated primary air, before both are blown out therefrom as combined supply air into the area in which the persons are seated. A determination of the room air temperature with sufficient accuracy is achieved by means of a thermal insulation (55) of the temperature sensors (26) with respect to the limits (44, 51, 56) of the secondary air slot (53) which surround them. <IMAGE>
