Braking device

A braking device for braking a load when the driving motor stops or is decoupled from the load, has a braking element which is rotatably connected to the load shaft and can come into operative engagement with a brake shoe. A flexible conduit which is connected at one end to a source of pressure fluid and is sealed at its other end is pressed flat between two plates by springs when the fluid is not under pressure. One of the plates is mechanically connected to the brake shoe which comes into operative engagement with the braking element under the pressure of the springs and releases the said element when the pressure fluid expands the conduit and pushes the plates apart. In a clutch braking arrangement, the braking element movable axially on the load shaft (38) is a disc which is forced against the brake shoe (108) by the springs (70) and against a clutch shoe (32) supported by the input shaft (20) by expansion of the conduit (86). In a second embodiment (Fig. 5), the conduit (121) also supplies the motor (100) with pressure fluid and the plates (105, 107) form brake shoes. <IMAGE>
