PURPOSE:To prevent the abandonment of an unknown pattern to be identified to reduce erroneous recognition, by obtaining a correction resemblance degree on a basis of the resemblance degree between known patterns and the resemblance degree between the unknown pattern and known patterns and performing the correction with this correction resemblance degree. CONSTITUTION:A maximum resemblance degree Max (Lij) between two likest known patterns out of four known patterns is l12 (or l21). A maximum resemblance degree Max (Lke) between a known pattern Pk (k=1, 2, 3, and 4) and a known pattern Pe (enot equal to k and e=1, 2, 3, and 4) having the greatest resemblance to this patter Pk is obtained. A correction resemblance degree LAMBDALkx between a known pattern P1 and an unknown pattern Px having the greatest resemblance to this pattern P1 and the correction resemblance degree LAMBDALkx between a known pattern P4 and an unknown pattern Pz having the greatest resemblance to this pattern P4 are obtained, and the relation between respective correction resemblance degrees LAMBDALkx. As the result, an unknown pattern Py having a great resemblance to known patterns P1 and P2 is abandoned, and a known pattern Pz having a resemblance only to the known pattern P4 is adopted. |
