An article transport apparatus is provided to perform the exchange devices of plural carriers while continuing the transporting of the articles. An article transport apparatus includes a plurality of carriers(4) to transport articles via plural article transporting places(1,3), and an operation controlling device(H) to control the plurality carriers such that the transporting of the articles is performed. The operation controlling device selects a carrier to perform the transporting of the articles to transport the articles.
