Shape recognition and stress contour indicator e.g. for feet - uses flat sheet acting as light guide and detects light refraction arising from compression of sheet

The shape recognition and pressure point indicator uses a translucent sheet (1) forming a pseudo light guide having upper and lower test and observation faces (2,3), and light sources (6,7) shining onto the edges of the sheet (4,5). Pressure on the light guides causes diffusion and diffraction of the incident light to the translucent sheet (1). A mat (8) formed with longitudinal rounded ridges is placed on top of the sheet and forms a reference grid and support surface for e.g. feet to be analysed (11). The distortion of the reference lines resulting from the weight are detected optically (14,15) to show up the stress contours arising from the object (11) placed on the mat (8).
