<p>Apparatus for the separation of liquid-liquid and/or liquid-solid mixtures, especially sugar-containing suspensions, consists of a vessel 1 fitted at its upper end with a plurality of plane, parallel, inclined plates 2 forming separation passages, a mixture distributor 3 at one end of the passages, an outlet 4 for purified liquid at the other end of the passages, inside the vessel below and/or above the plates 2 and extending transversely thereto a plurality of planar or curved guide blades 6, and an outlet at the top of the vessel for separated liquid and/or an outlet 5 at the bottom of the vessel for the discharge of the separated solid. For the separation of the liquid from the solid phase the guide blades 6 are arranged below the plates 2, while for the separation of two liquids from each other the guide blades 6 are arranged above the plates 2.
