Sewing kit for emergency repairs comprises a disposable needle with pre-attached thread. The needle is of injection-moulded plastic material having glass-fibre or carbon-fibre reinforcement for added rigidity and with a sufficiently fine point to penetrate common fabrics. The thread is laid in a groove at the blunt end of the needle and fixed permanently by ultrasonic welding, or the needle may be moulded around the thread. The needle pref. composes a superpolyamide, a polycarbonate, polybutylene terephthalate, or shock-modified polyamide 66, with 20-30% reinforcing fibre. The needle is always ready for instant use, requiring no threading time, and is partic. suitable for a travelling kit.
