In this method for producing a linear Fresnel lens, the workpiece to be machined is held on a support which can be moved in a revolving fashion about an axis of rotation. The plate-shaped workpiece is guided at least partially in each case parallel to the axis of rotation of the support, and in order to produce the refractive surfaces of the Fresnel lens the forming tool is moved in a displacement movement which is parallel to the axis of rotation. The device for carrying out the method comprises a workpiece holder which either is constructed as a hollow cylinder or is configured in the shape of a band, the workpiece being arranged on the lateral surfaces of the support. In this case, the forming tool can be displaced parallel to the lateral surface of the revolving body in order to produce the refractive surfaces. Fresnel lenses can be produced in a cost effective manner using the method and the device. In addition, the individual refractive surfaces can also be machined more cleanly than in the case of previously known Fresnel lenses.
