A positionally variable pushing device (1) for vehicle trailers is mounted so as to be capable of being varied in position relative to the vehicle frame (6) by means of pivoted bogey (5), speed-transforming transmission (304) comprising two transmission wheels (31, 32) which engage with one another via a gear train (33) for example a cable or a chain, a pushrod (41) and a gear lever (42) and frame device (2). The pushing device (1) can be varied in position as a function of the angle of rotation (36) of the pivoted bogey. A relatively large gearwheel (31) is mounted on the pivoted bogey (5) and the other smaller gearwheel (32) is mounted in a rotationally fixed combination with the gear lever (42) so as to be capable of rotating with respect to the pivoted bogey (5). In order to achieve an overall size for the speed-transforming transmission gearing which is as small as possible, the small gearwheel (32) is mounted concentrically with respect to the large one (31) and the gear train (33) is mounted outside the latter so as to be capable of moving in relation thereto by means of a deflection roller device (380). <IMAGE>
