PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform the measurement without destruction, in the measurement of the smoothness of the surface of the paper, by utilizing the correlation between the surface smoothness and heat conductivity. CONSTITUTION:The paper to be measured 2 is compressed to a head part 1 by a platen roller 3 at a constant pressure. The head part comprises a glazed layer 5 on an aluminum substrate 4, a resistor film 6 thereon, a heating part 7 which is a part of the resistor, a connecting line 8, and a wear resisting insulating film 9. Though the surface of the insulating film 9 is nearly perfect surface, there are small concave and convex parts on the surface of the paper to be measured 2. Therefore, a true contact area is smaller than apparent contact area. The broader the true contact area, the larger the amount of heat conduction, and therefore the larger the decrease in the temperature of the heating part. Therefore, the temperature T of the heating part is measured with a constant power being supplied, and the difference T0-T, where T0 is the temperature when the paper to be measured is not present, is obtained as an index for indicating the smoothness. |
