DEADWOOD SLIDING CONTACT BEARING

The stern tube bearing is basically conventional, with a cylindrical shell comprising butting longitudinal segments with full-length axial grooves open towards the inside surface. However one segment (3) is made uniformly proud of the adjoining ones (4), its entire inner surface (B) constituting the bearing area. The full-length axial grooves are formed in the butting faces of the raised segment and its neighbours in combination (5,6), producing a channel (7) bounded by a spiral surface. The spiral ends respectively have common tangential planes with the inside surface (B) of the higher (3) and that (A) of the adjoining lower segment (4).
