<p>A bulbous article e.g. a sphere, having a small aperture leading to its interior, is made by locating the flanged mouth of a tubular parison closed at one end against a spit blow mould so that the parison extends into the mould. A small gap exists between the section of the parison adjacent the mouth and the adjacent mould surface and blowing is effected by a blow tube which firmly clamps the flange mouth against the mould. Hot air is used for the blowing. Most thermoplastics can be used and methacrylates, polycarbonates and polypropylene are specifically quoted. The parison is preferably injection moulded, and the flange of the mouth may be flat or conical.</p> |
