PURPOSE:To improve the performance, upon starting and as well just after the starting, of an engine having a fuel injection device with a valve opening pressure control unit, by controlling the load which is applied to a piston in response to detection signals indicating engine operating conditions so that the pressure of opening a nozzle valve is adjusted. CONSTITUTION:A signal S4 corresponding to demanded load is delivered to a controller 29 with a rotation signal S3 being zero upon starting so that signals S1, S2 delivered to selector valves 24, 51, respectively, are held at zero. Fuel is fed to an injector 2 by a pump 7a started at this stage. A part of fuel flows into a chamber 12 accommodating therein a spring, through a valve 51. The sum of the pressure corresponding to a set load of a nozzle spring 11 and the set fuel pressure of a check valve 49 is applied, as a nozzle opening pressure, to a needle valve 8 through a piston 9. Then, the nozzle opening pressure becomes equal to the sum of the set load of the spring 11 and the product of the effective pressure area of right end of a piston 16 and a set load of a compression spring 33 when the speed of the engine rises so that the volume of fuel leak in the chamber 2 is increased, thereby the nozzle is actuated under higher nozzle opening pressure. |
