PURPOSE:In the catalytic dealkylation of alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbons, a combination, of the matallic component selected from copper, silver and others and rhodium and chromium components is used as a catalyst and the hydrocarbons are treated with hydrogen at a relatively low temperature, thus producing the titled substance in high yield. CONSTITUTION:In the catalytic dealkylation of alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbons, a catalyst prepared by supporting three components, i.e.; a metallic component, at least one selected from copper, silver, zinc, cadmium, antimony and bismuth; a rhodium component and a chromium component on an appropriate carrier where preferably the amount of the metallic component is 0.01- 20wt%, the rhodium component is 0.01-5wt% and the chromium component is 0.1-60wt%, is used and the hydrocarbons are treated with hydrogen at 400- 650, preferably 500-600 deg.C and 1-100kg/cm<2> and 30-70kg/cm<2>. The amount of hydrogen is appropriately 1-15 times the molar quantity of the starting hydrocarbons. |
