A process for the production of a laminated glass for optical purposes, which essentially comprises a base element (1) of a transparent plastic and a sheet (4), applied to the base element, of a material which is harder than that of the base element. The sheet, which can be, for example, a sapphire sheet, is bonded to the base element by means of a liquid, monomer-containing and polymerising binder, where the polymerisation process is accelerated with the aid of an exothermic, swellable polymer powder (2). The polymer powder is preferably applied in a thin layer to at least one of the facing sides of the base element or of the sheet, which means that the polymerisation of the binder (5) takes place in all areas, so that a uniform binder layer is present between the base element and the sheet after the polymerisation. The laminated glass produced in this way has greater impact strength than protective glasses known hitherto and is inexpensive to produce. <IMAGE>
