A device for changing the conveying direction of objects, in particular piles of paper, which are to be moved up to a feed conveyor and discharged via a delivery conveyor running essentially transversely thereto, has tongs consisting of rotating clamping plates, whose lower clamping plate is arranged in the plane of the conveyor and whose upper clamping plate is displaceable relative to the lower clamping plate in the direction of closing and opening the tongs, both clamping plates scraping over adjacent inner portions of the feed and delivery conveyors during their rotation about an axis running next to and perpendicular to the conveyors. <IMAGE>
