PURPOSE:To produce a joined body of high electrolytic performance without using any binder by decomposing noble metal compds. thermally on a metallic plate to form a sheet-like object of catalytically active particles, joining this to an ion exchange membrane and dissolving away the metallic plate. CONSTITUTION:Noble metals and noble metal oxides which can dissolve generally in org. solvents or mixed systems of water and org. solvents, for example, H2PtCl6.6H2O and the like are thermally decomposed on a metallic plate which can dissolve in acids or alkalis, for example, a plate-like object of aluminum foil or the like, whereby a sheet-like object of catalytically active particles is produced. Thence, this sheet-like object is joined on at least one side of an ion exchange membrane, for example, an exchange membrane consisting basically of fluorocarbon having an exchange group such as sulfonic group, after which the metallic plate is dissolved away. Thereby, the joined body of the ion exchange membrane and the catalytic electrode adaptable to noble metal compds. that decompose thermally at high temp. as well is produced. |
