The invention relates to a system and a method for generating broadband light for wellbore applications. According to the invention, the system comprises: a laser source (106) that produces a light pulse at a first wavelength spectrum and a converter (117) located in a wellbore (102), the laser source (106) being in a position remote from the converter (117) which is configured to receive the light pulse at the first wavelength spectrum and generate light at a second wavelength spectrum that has a broader range than the first wavelength spectrum. The method, as claimed, consists in generating a light pulse at a first wavelength spectrum outside a wellbore, transmitting the light pulse at the first wavelength spectrum to a downhole location inside the wellbore and converting the light pulse at the first wavelength spectrum into light at a second wavelength spectrum that has a broader range than the first wavelength spectrum. |
