Luminaire having a bulb-shaped gas discharge lamp

In the case of a luminaire having a bulb-shaped gas discharge lamp which is suitable for lighting streets, it is possible to use both high-pressure sodium-vapour lamps and high-pressure mercury-vapour lamps. In order to achieve an evening out of the distribution of light intensity in the important planes of radiation to be considered here in the case of both lamp types, provision is made of light-directing and/or light-scattering sections at the high-gloss mirror reflectors in the regions of the maxima of light intensity in preferred planes. It is thus possible also to make use of high-pressure sodium-vapour lamps in luminaires which are designed for high-pressure mercury-vapour lamps. Preference is given to reflectors having sections with an appropriate saw-tooth profile, which lead, for example, to steeper exit angles with respect to the vertical in the preferred planes.
