In a driving and braking device for motor-vehicle window lifters and the like, having a driving member (114) mounted rotatably on a baseplate (112), a driven member (116) coupled to the driving member and mounted rotatably on the baseplate and a braking unit acting between the driven member and the baseplate, it is proposed to mount fixedly in terms of rotation on the baseplate (112) a braking member (braking plate 120), by means of which the driven member can be brought into positive engagement when the driving member is stationary and out of engagement when the driving member rotates, with the result that a driving and braking device which is of simple construction, can be produced cost-effectively and has an easy movement is obtained. <IMAGE>
