A herbicidal composition containing as an active ingredient the compound of the formula
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="21" wi="60" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>wherein R<Sub>o</Sub> represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, and R<Sub>1</Sub>, R<Sub>2</Sub> and R<Sub>3</Sub> each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom, or a lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or lower alkenyloxy group,
which is especially useful for application to aquatic rice paddies, and novel compounds of formula (I) wherein R<Sub>o</Sub>, R<Sub>1</Sub>, R<Sub>2</Sub> and R<Sub>3</Sub> have the same meanings as defined above, provided that R<Sub>1</Sub>, R<Sub>2</Sub> and R<Sub>3</Sub> do not represent hydrogen atom at the same time.
