A circuit arrangement for protection of a current transformer, in the case of which high voltage spikes and severe heating occur in the event of failure of a load which is connected in the secondary circuit of the current transformer. A switching contact which is open in the operating mode is provided in a branch parallel to the load. A switching device which causes the switching contact to close in the event of failure of the load is connected in a second branch parallel to the load. A spare load, which corresponds to the load, can be connected in series with the switching contact. The circuit arrangement is preferably provided for use in an optical landing aid (visual approach-slope indicator - VASI). <IMAGE>
