The developing unit (20) has a developing bath (27.1), fixing bath (27.2) and watering bath (27.3). A main transport traction means (37) guides a transport rod (25) with driver shoes (80) from the insertion station (26) to a first transfer, at which a bath traction means (39) with driver teeth (88) grips the transport rod (25). While the driver shoes (80) of the main transport traction means run on their own track, the bath transport traction means (39) guide the transport rod (25) and, behind themselves, the photosensitive material (24) through the developing bath, and in the region of squeegee rollers (30, 31) transfers the transport rod (25) to the main transport traction means (37) and transfers the latter in turn to a next bath traction means (39.2), so that no bath retardation occurs. After the last bath (27.3), the main transport traction means (37) takes over the transport rod (25) and leads it together with photosensitive material (24) through a drying unit (63) to the machine outlet (28). <IMAGE>
