A switching relay for high-voltage and high-current contacts, especially for defibrilators, having an armature which is operated by a coil and carries one of the switching contacts under the influence of a spring and in an insulated manner, whose opposing contact is likewise insulated from the relay, and having an auxiliary switch which is operated by the armature and is connected in a circuit for monitoring the armature position, is intended to be constructed such that the auxiliary switch requires no adjustment whatsoever, but a sufficiently large insensitive switching path is also preferably still available without the dimensions or the construction of the switching relay in consequence having to be modified or even enlarged. The solution is for the auxiliary contact to have a contact which is seated on the armature and a mating contact which is seated on the relay structure.
