A stackable and right parallelepipedal container (10, 110) in which one or more drawers (11) or file plates or the like can be accommodated to receive files, sheets of writing paper, documents or the like, is provided on two of its adjacent longitudinal walls (13 and 14; 113 and 114) with webs (17, 117) which extend longitudinally and can be inserted into cavities (18, 118), which also extend longitudinally, of a further container, the cavities being formed in the opposite longitudinal walls (15 and 16; 115 and 116). The webs (17, 117), which are connected to their longitudinal walls by means of a neck (19, 119) may have a cross section which is circular, semi-circular, rectangular, square, elliptical or similarly shaped and together with the cavities (18, 118), which have appropriate shapes and sizes and are connected to the exterior by means of a slot (20, 120) which is assigned to the neck (19, 119), they form a slideway. Containers joined together to form a container assembly cannot be laterally separated from one another, either in a horizontal or vertical direction. Individual containers can, however, be removed from the assembly and/or exchanged in the direction leading towards the front of the container assembly, without the assembly collapsing. <IMAGE>
