PURPOSE:To obtain an eddy current coupling with less inertia and requiring less floor space for installation by a method wherein an eddy current coupling is constituted of a first and second eddy current cylinders and a first and second magnetic poles. CONSTITUTION:An eddy current coupling consists of a first and second eddy current cylinders 11 and 51, and a first and second magnetic poles 13 and 52. The first eddy current cylinder 11 is fixed to a driving shaft 64 and the first magnetic pole 13 is fixed to a driven shaft 12. The second eddy current cylinder 51 is fixed lengthwise along the shaft to an end of the first magnetic pole 13, and the second magnetic pole 52 is fixed to a base 7. The combination of the first eddy current cylinder 11 and the first magnetic pole 13 is magnetically coupled with the combination of the second eddy current cylinder 51 and the second magnetic pole 52. A rotating force is transmitted to the driven shaft 12, the size of the force dependent upon the size of flux generated by the eddy current in the first eddy current cylinder 11 and the exciting current in a coil 16. |
