The device is used to automatically feed dogs or cats when their owners are absent. The food is stored in a hopper placed above a feeding-bowl. The food drops by gravity through a lower aperture closed by a trap-door. The feeding-bowl can be filled with hot or cold water to water the animal, rehydrate some food and clean the feeding bowl. Also the food and water left in the feeding-bowl can be evacuated. The feeder may be formed as part of a specially built kennel. The feeding-bowl is moved upwards as it is emptied and its position detected to indicate the amount of food or water left inside. The feeder is controlled by a programmable electronic unit including a clock.
