A packaging container made of rigid expanded plastic for piece goods which has a box-shaped reception part, which is composed of a floor and side walls, and a lid part which can be placed on the side walls and is especially plate-shaped, is further developed to permit protection of sensitive and, in particular, fragile articles inside the container against jolts and to permit fixing of the articles inside the container. To this end, at least the floor and the lid part are in each case provided on their surfaces facing the inside of the container with grid recesses (30) and grid webs (31) which are distributed in a reticular fashion. Furthermore, at least one separating plate (32), which is made of the same rigid expanded plastic, is arranged in the reception part. This separating plate is provided on its edges facing the floor and the lid part with projections (34) and notches (33) which are complementary to the grid recesses (30) and grid webs (31). Furthermore, the height of the said separating plate from the floor to the lid part is such that when the lid part is mounted, the projections (34) and notches (33) are joined to the grid recesses (30) and grid webs (31) of the floor and the lid part. <IMAGE>
