An edge filter with a rotatable cylindrical insert, through which the flow is generally from the outside inwards, is fitted with a U-profile which lies along the insert and makes permanent contact on the insert with the arm which is at the back in the direction of rotation, and thus forms a scraper, and can be pressed on by its arm which is at the front in the direction of rotation, whereby a washing channel for backwashing with sectorial flow reversal at the insert is formed. The U-profile is adjusted by means of hydraulic forces, after a washing orifice connected to the interior of the washing channel has been opened. <IMAGE>
