A brake indicator device for motor vehicles is proposed which is attached to the upper rear part of the vehicle in addition to the prescribed brake lights and consists of at least one additional brake light, and generally two additional brake lights (11, 14). In order to reduce dazzling of the vehicles travelling behind, a time delay element (18 and 21, respectively) is provided which can be triggered by brake signals and by means of which elements (12, 15, 22) for reducing the intensity of the light of the additional brake lights (11, 14) after the delay time has elapsed can be controlled. This reduction can extend as far as the value zero. <IMAGE>
