The invention relates to a process for cleaning contaminated vessels by means of a mixture of a cleaning solution and solid granules, in which the vessel and the mixture are moved relative to one another. The solid granules used have an interstitial volume of 25-60% of the granular filling and the ratio O of the volume of the cleaning solution to the interstitial volume is 1-2. The solid granules have a spherical, cylindrical or chip shape with a diameter between 0.5 and 10 mm. Water, sodium hydroxide solution, acid, organic solvents or a mixture of the aforementioned substances are used as the liquid cleaning solution.
