<p>External accessories such as tail fins or sun visors for vehicle bodies are secured to the surface metalwork, glass, etc. by pads partially coated with adhesives which can (a) maintain the part in position unsupported while still allowing prompt adjustments of position or even removal, and (b) subsequently set firm enough to be the sole anchorage for the accessory in service. Simpler to fit than use of bolted, clamped or welded mounints, does not damage the bodywork structure with holes etc. A single adhesive composition having sufficient initial tack may be used -specifically an epoxy - or rubber-based system. Alternatively the pads, which are pref. integral with the accessory, carry a border strip of contact adhesive and a central patch of an adhesive which will develop a permanent bond.</p> |
