The heating boiler is intended for the combustion of solid fuels, especially paper bales. An ash-fall and a primary-air slot is designed in the form of a grating (19) covering at least half the fire-space bottom. Ash-stripping elements (9), the fire-space bottom (3) and the fuel-feed orifice (1') are arranged and designed relative to one another such that the lower region of the vertical glowing bed is located outside the effective range of the ash-stripping element (9). <IMAGE>
