The pedal drive for a bicycle has left and right cranks with bores at their axial ends and with cut-outs around the bores. Threaded end caps engage the ends of the cut-outs. Each crank arm (31) retains the cap non-rotatably to close the cut-out. The caps have retainers (52) to engage the cut-outs with projections (53) to engage the drive shaft (4) end piece (42). The heads of the caps can have bores (57) for receiving a retaining plug.
