PURPOSE:To increase the running performance and the wear-resistant performance of a recording medium, by providing a surface layer made of a polymer layer polymerized with irradiation of radiant ray, on a magnetic metallic thin film or a rear surface of a support of a metallic thin film type magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:On a support made of a polyethylene terephthalate film, a ferromagnetic metallic thin film is formed as a magnetic recording layer by a vacuum deposition method, a sputtering method and a plating method. Further, at least on the rear side of the support having the magnetic metallic thin film or on the magnetic metallic thin film, a polymer layer having an unsaturated bond possible for polymerization with the irradiation of radiant rays is painted. As examples of the polymer, unsaturated polyester having 100-20,000mol.wt., unsaturated acrylic resin and unsaturated polycarbonate can be used. Further, radiant rays are irradiated on the painted polymer layer and the surface layer is formed by polymerization, allowing to obtain the objective magnetic recording medium. |
