Logs (1) are fed to the cutter heads (2) of a profile cutting machine with the root end foremost. In the intake of the profile cutting machine, three alignment units (3, 4, 5) are arranged in sequence. They have alignment rollers (31, 32, 41, 42, 51, 52) which lie opposite to each other in each case and are mounted on pivot arms. These pivot arms (33, 34, 43, 44, 53, 54) are coupled to each other by coupling rods (38, 48, 58) to make pivoting movements in the same direction. The coupling rods (38, 48) of the front and middle alignment units (3, 4) are adjustable as to length. The middle alignment unit has a measuring device (7) on its coupling rod (48). The front alignment unit (3) eccentrically aligns the root end of the log (1) in accordance with the measurement result of the measuring device (7) of the middle alignment unit (4) before the root end enters between the cutter heads (1). <IMAGE> |
