Biological material for dressing wounds (esp. burns) comprises a concentrate contg. haemoglobin-free stromata, subcellular elements and pptd. protoplasmic albumin derived from human red blood cells. More specifically, the material is produced by sepg. the plasma from stabilised human blood, subjecting the red cells to haemolysis with distd. water at pH 3.7-5.3 (pref. 4.0-5.0), sepg. the resulting ppte., and washing with distd. water to remove free haemoglobin. The washed ppte. is pref. freeze-dried, mixed with an agar gel and formed into sheets with a thickness of 2-3 mm. The sheets are then covered with a sheet of plastic gauze, which is then covered with a layer of agar gel. Haemolysis is pref. effected with at least 10 vols. of water adjusted to pH 4.2-4.6 with citric or carbonic acid, followed by decantation and centrifuging at 0-10 deg. C. The material can be produced inexpensively in large quantities, has good storage stability and promotes rapid healing of wounds without problems of tissue incompatibility.
|
