<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield, by reacting an easily obtainable 2-dihalomethyl-6-phenoxypyridine with a nucleophilic agent in the presence of a base to give a 2-substituted methyl-6-phenoxypyridine, hydrolyzing the compound in the presence of an acid. CONSTITUTION:A 2-dihalomethyl-6-phenoxypyridine shown by the formulaI(X is halogen) obtained easily by halogenating 2-methyl-6-phenoxypyridine which is prepared by condensing a 2-halo-6-methylpyridine with phenol is reacted with a nucleophilic agent such as an alkylene diol, cyclic amine shown by the formula (Y is alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylthio, two Y may form alkylenedioxy) in the presence of a base to give a 2-substituted methyl-6-phenoxypyridine derivative shown by the formula II, which is hydrolyzed in the presence of an acid, to give the desired compound.
