<p>A hydraulic fluid is claimed, comprising: (i) 70-90% of a base, contg. at least 30% of Cl2-C30 (pref. C20-C30) isoparaffinic oligomer, and (ii) (the remainder) one or more additives chosen from lubricant-, anti-wear-, viscosity improving-, oiliness- and antioxidant additives. Component (i) is prepd. by oligomerisation of C6-C14 linear alpha-olefines with Friedel-Crafts catalysts and hydrogenation of the prod. The alpha-olefines are pref. prepd. by Ziegler telomerisation of ethylene. Pref. isoparaffinic oligomers are the hydrogenation prods. of the trimer or esp. the dimer of decene-1. The base may also contain an n-alkyl cyclohexane, pref. with C10-C14 n-alkyl, and/or a mineral oil base, pref. naphthenic. Fluid is used in brakes, clutches and shock-absorbers of cars; in presses, etc. The fluid satisfies French Standard NF R 12-640. It has good lubricant properties and low viscosity at -40 deg. C, and does not swell elastomers.</p> |
