A carrying device for attaching to the roof of a vehicle, in particular a passenger vehicle which has front and rear parts attached to a passenger compartment, having a frame which is releasably connected to the vehicle roof by means of gripping elements or the like, is to be designed in such a manner that it protects the vehicle against effects of the weather. For this purpose, the carrying device (3) is provided with a cover stretched over it and, on at least two mutually opposite sides, with hide or cloth lengths (11 to 13) which can be pulled out away from it, are made of weather-resistant material and are designed such that they can be connected to each other to form a covering surrounding the vehicle (2). In this connection, it is intended that containers (10) for holding the cloth length or lengths (11 to 13) be fixed on the carrying device, the cloth being arranged therein in the manner of a roller blind, and that these cloth lengths be provided such that they can be partially pulled out of the container counter to stored energy. <IMAGE>
