The invention resides in providing a collating machine (1), which is known per se and has a plurality of feed stations (6), with a page-gluing apparatus (10) which can be optionally used or taken into operation and applies narrow films of glue, close to the edges, to the topmost sheet of a set of printed matter, so that gluing work can also be carried out when sets of printed matter are collated.
