The thin-film ioniser for ionising especially air and over air gaps is constructed as a flat laminate structure consisting of four flat structures made of electrically insulating material. Comb-like emitters are enclosed in layers between a first and a second surface structure, the emitter teeth of which combs are exposed at their ends in the edge of the laminate structure. The emitters are separated by one or two further interposed electrically insulating surface structures, which act as a dielectric, from a conductor which acts on the emitters by capacitive coupling. A second conductor, which is earthed or is connected to earth, is arranged separated from the live conductor by a further insulator layer. The complete structure is constructed especially in the form of long strip-like ribbons with a soft flexible structure and connecting pieces or connectors on the two narrow sides of the strips.
