Octahydrobenzo[f]quinoline compounds of formula (I):-

<UnorderedLists id="ula01" listStyle="none"><ListItem>R is hydrogen or lower alkyl having one to three carbon atoms;</ListItem><ListItem>X is methoxy, methylthio or ethylthio; and its pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are disclosed. These compounds are centrally acting alpha<Sub>1</Sub> agonists.</ListItem></UnorderedLists>
