PURPOSE:To obtain a five-membered ring unsaturated lactone useful as a raw material for medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc. selectively, by reacting carbon monoxide with an acetylenic compound and an olefinic compound in the presence of metallic rhodium or a rhodium compound catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Carbon monoxide is reacted with a compound of formulaI(R<1> and R<2> are H, alkyl, aryl, silyl, alkoxycarbonyl or acyl) and a compound of formula II (R<3> is H, alkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, acyloxy, alkoxyl, acyl, CN or halogen) in the presence of metallic rhodium or a rhodium compound catalyst in a solvent, preferably a hydrogen-donative solvent, to give a compound of formula III (one of R<4> and R<5> is R<1> and the other is R<2>; R<6> is CH2CH2R<3> or formula IV. Rhodium carbonyl compounds or various rhodium compounds, etc. readily convertible into the rhodium carbonyl compounds are usable as the catalyst. |
