The connector for fibre optic cables allows mating connectors to be rapidly and accurately aligned. The ends of each cable are fitted with a terminated terminator. One terminator is housed in each half of the connector where it is fixed by an acrylic resin. The two parts are held in alignment by indexing plugs rigidly fixed in one half of the connector which plug into mating sockets in the other. The mounting is a cylindrical shell with an annular shoulder of larger dia. than the collar of the terminator. The two are held by a ring of resin between the collar and the shoulder sleeving the collar and moulded into place. The indexing plugs are disposed, run-uniformly around the rim of the collar and are either circular or oval with corresponding plane or oval faced housings in the mating part. The two connector parts are held together by a threaded locking ring and thrust washer. The connector ends compress a sealing ring between them.
