Calcium silicate is made by reacting calcium hydroxide and silicone dioxide with addn. of acetate (I) prior to reacting the two reaction components to form calcium silicate crystals. (I) is esp. Mg acetate, Mn acetate, or Ni acetate added e.g. at 1-3 wt.% w.r.t. solid material in the reaction components. In a pref. process, a calcium silicate insulation material is made by introducing the reaction components and water into an autoclave for the chosen period, transferring the prod.to a pressure vessel operating at a press. below that in the autoclave and adding a fibrous material such as cellulose fibre or a mixt. of cellulose fibre and mineral fibre into the vessel prior to adding the reaction prod. from the autoclave so as to reduce the amt. of energy required to lower the press.in the receiver vessel to the required amt. below that in the autoclave. Addn. of acetate to the system stabilises the xonotlite prod. and reduces the viscosity of the system, prevents formation of clumps, gives a uniform, high quality prod. and exerts a self-cleaning effect on the autoclave and leads.
|
