PURPOSE:To enable abrupt displacement to be precisely restrained by utilizing an electromagnetic brake for an electromagnetic braking mechanism in a damper for supporting various pipe lines of all sorts of plants or thermoelectric power plants to a supporting member of a building so that the electromagnetic brake is actuated upon occurrence of earthquake. CONSTITUTION:A solenoid 21 of an electromagnetic brake 24 is energized when supported members such as, for example, pipe lines, are abruptly displaced by, for example, earthquake. This energization causes a yoke 22 to absorb an armature 20 integrally with a leaf spring 19, overcoming the force of the latter. Therefore, the rotary motion of them is braked and abrupt displacement is promptly restrained. Meanwhile, the solenoid 21 is not energized when the pipe lines are displaced, gently, that is, at a low acceleration. Accordingly, in such a case, resistive force is not generated, substantially, so that the gentle or low accelerating displacement of th supported member such as, for example, the pipe lines is permitted. |
