A transformer or reactor has at least one winding 11, 12, constructed from several layers of a metal foil 15 serving as conductor in the winding, wound on each other, and with an electrical insulation 16 comprising a polymer film arranged between layers of metal foil. The polymer film has the shape of gores 17, 18, 19, which are arranged one after the other in the winding direction with overlapping edges, which form overlap sites 20, 21 with adjacent spaces 22, not filled with metal foil or insulation, which communicate with the space 23 outside the end surfaces 24, 25, 26, 27 of the winding and with insulating liquid or insulating gas arranged there.
