Device incorporates an automatic control system for inflation of the locating elements according to the requirements of the borehole at the level at which the device is located. A feedback control system based on a microprocessor above ground is connected via cable to measuring and actuating elements in the locating device which inflate or deflate, as appropriate, inflatable sleeves which surround the device which is of considerably smaller diameter than the borehole. Feedback may be from pressure differential, borehole dia. or inflated sleeve internal dia. For location of measuring elements centrally in relatively large dia. boreholes.
