摘要 PURPOSE:To achieve a magnetic recording medium with improved corrosion resistance and wear resistance, by constituting a ferromagnetic layer on a substrate with an assembly of pillar ferromagnetic substances having the surface coated with a nonmagnetic substance having corrosion resistance and wear resistance. CONSTITUTION:After a ferromagnetic thin film 11 is constituted on a substrate 2, a thin film 12 being a nonmagnetic substance of an oxide of Co or Fe, at room temperature is coated, a ferromagnetic thin film 13 is laminated and succeedingly a nonmagnetic thin film is again coated. Nonmagnetic thin films 12 and 14 are coated on the surface of the ferromagnetic substance thin films 11 and 13 having a pillar construction by using thin film forming technology such as sputtering, ion-plating and vapor deposition methods. The nonmagnetic cobalt oxide 12 can be constituted at room temperature on the surface of the ferromagnetic thin film 11 having pillar construction, by performing glow processing at a low vacuum after constituting a ferromagnetic thin film, e.g., 11.
